Wow what a beautiful castle it sits up on a hill and when you look in the distance for it, it suddenly appears and it is so cool! This castle was Disneyland’s inspiration for the Cinderella castle! We first walked the wooded pathway up to the “Hohenschwangau” castle (It’s a yellow color) it stands below the “Neuschwanstein” castle. King Ludwig II spent part of his childhood and youth in this summer palace, which is surrounded with beautiful scenery. His father Maximilian II restored the palace fully in 1832. We walked over to “Mary’s bridge” which connects between two cliffs over a huge drop to water below. You have a beautiful view of the “Neuschwanstein castle. The bridge was built by King Ludwig for his wife so she could look at the other castle in the distance. We went through the “Hohenschwangau” castle first which from where we stood you have a really pretty view of the “Cinderella castle” (Neuschwanstein.) We walked back down a shorter path and caught a bus ride to the top of the “Neuschwanstein” castle. We walked around the castle a bit waiting for our time for the tour. It was really cool! You see swans all throughout the castle. The coat of arms bears a swan, which was the kings favorite animal. The tour takes about 1 hour and you walk up and down about 300 stairs. It was so cool!
